Custom Compact Light Stand Holder for Equilibrium USG

At C2E2 I bought a Panzer P.A.C. System from the wonderful people at Equilibrium USG. My main purpose for the Modular PAC System would be to carry around my lighting gear at conventions. I’m planning on stuffing it full of Speedlights, lighting modifiers, spare batteries, and… light stands.

The conundrum I had was how do I attach my light stands to the pack? I’ll explain my solution and provide pictures below the break…

Luckily the Equilibrium USG urban survival gear has a MOLLE-like system. I say it has a similar system because even though they both use the same size webbing the spacing between where the webbing is sewn to the case is 1 inch on the Equilibrium cases while the MOLLE/PALS webbing is sewn at 1.5 inch intervals.

Instead of trying to find a MOLLE/PALS pouch I could modify to fit my case and carry my light stand, I decided to make my own from the ground up.

The light stands I use at conventions are the Compact Light Stands that Calumet¬†and LumoPro make. Both have triangular bases when folded up so I made a form fitting pouch to make sure it didn’t wiggle about.

The pouch is attached with straps woven through the utility webbing on the side of the case. To make it stay in place the straps snap to the pouch in four places. I’ve added extra stitching to the back to make sure that the thing wouldn’t fall apart as I run around a convention.

To hold the top of the light stand in place I attached two 1 inch metal rectangle rings. Through those I threaded 1 inch webbing with a luggage buckle attached to it.

Together the top strap and the bottom fitted pouch hold the compact light stand nice and snug against the case. Mission accomplished!
